About

Based in North Carolina, STEM Academy (SA) is a STEM mentorship organization that offers a broad variety of mentorship opportunities, ranging from Science Fair mentorship to STEM curriculum activities. Each activity is designed to satisfy a corresponding NCDPI STEM Learning Objective and includes a measurement tool for tracking students' mastery.

In our inaugural year (2020-21), STEM Academy served over 800 mentees from 20 schools, programs, and organizations across NC, including: Boys & Girls Club of North Central NC, FIRST Robotics NC, Triad Regional Science Olympiad, Forest View Elementary School, C.C. Griffin STEM Middle School, La Grange Elementary School, Enka Intermediate School, WG Pearson, and more.

Additionally, over 200 mentors, from 30+ colleges, universities, and high schools have participated in STEM Academy.

SA is currently working with multiple consultants, such as Mentor NC, to develop our organization's infrastructure.

Our Story

During the 2019-2020 school year, Science Fair Academy, led by Zane Dash, piloted Science Fair and Science Olympiad mentorship at Isaac Bear Early College in Wilmington, North Carolina. Throughout the course of its first year, nearly 70 student mentees received mentorship from a group of 20 high school mentors at Isaac Bear Early College. SFA now runs independently in New Hanover County and is continuing to grow roots in its community.
